Reaching Stanford Campus

We recommend you look at the Stanford Parking and Circulation / Campus Map which you can find at campus map. The math circle will take place in building 380, labeled “The Math Corner” in quadrant G7 of the map. For those driving, the best parking is around the Oval a short distance away in quadrant F8. On weekends you may park in any area on the map marked with a green square P, a purple triangle A, or an orange circle C. This includes most of the Oval so there should be ample parking.

The math circle is held in Room 380-C of the math building. From the Oval, head towards the far right hand corner of the academic building facing the Oval. The double doors there lead into Sloan Hall, which is the math wing. Proceed along the short hallway to the elevator and take it to the basement. Turn left upon exiting the elevator to reach an open area; the entrance to the room is then on your left. If the main doors happen to be locked, the basement level door down the steps from the bike racks is typically open. From there walk straight ahead to the end of the short hallway, then take a right and walk to the end of that short hallway past the elevator to an open area. The entrance to 380-C will be on your left.

Driving directions from Highway 101:   Take the University Avenue exit, at the IKEA store. If coming up 101 North, be sure to stay in the exit lane until you pass underneath the bridge, then loop around to merge onto University Avenue and take the bridge over 101 headed towards downtown Palo Alto. If coming down 101 South, the exit lane will also take you under the bridge before looping around to a traffic light. Take a left at this light onto University Avenue, headed towards downtown Palo Alto. Now simply remain on University Avenue through the series of lights in downtown Palo Alto, underneath the Caltrain tracks, and into Stanford campus. (The road name changes to Palm Drive at this point.) Continue straight down Palm Drive, staying in the left lane, until you reach the Oval. Park as close to the far end of the Oval as possible, near the academic buildings.

From El Camino Real:   Take the University Avenue exit. If driving north this comes up just past the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (on your right). Turn left onto University Avenue, which immediately becomes Palm Drive, and continue as above. If driving south the exit comes up just past the Stanford shopping center (on your right). Turn right onto University Avenue, which immediately becomes Palm Drive, and continue as above.

From San Jose on Interstate 280:   Coming from the south, take the Alpine Road exit and stay right so that you head northeast away from the mountains on Alpine Road. When you reach Junipero Serra Boulevard turn right, then turn left onto Campus Drive West at the first light, and continue along Campus Drive as it winds through campus all the way until it meets Palm Drive. (Check the campus map above to see how this works.) Turn right onto Palm Drive and drive until you reach the Oval. Park as close to the far end of the Oval as possible, near the academic buildings.

From San Francisco on Interstate 280:   Coming from the north it is more direct to take the Sandhill Road exit. Stay in the exit lane until it passes underneath Sandhill Road before looping around. Proceed through four or five stoplights until you reach Santa Cruz avenue. Take a right onto Santa Cruz, then an immediate left onto Junipero Serra Boulevard. Now turn left onto Campus Drive West at the first light, and continue along Campus Drive as it winds through campus all the way until it meets Palm Drive. (Check the campus map above to see how this works.) Turn right onto Palm Drive and drive until you reach the Oval. Park as close to the far end of the Oval as possible, near the academic buildings.

Via Caltrain:   This is possible although not all that convenient. To see timetables for the trains and buses involved consult the Caltrain schedule, then check the free Marguerite shuttle information -- click on the Shopping Express link.
